God’s desire for His children is that they prosper in life and experience no lack. Lack means to want and to be in need. When you look in your life, God doesn’t want you to have lack in any area.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
— Psalm 23:1-6

Let’s break down Psalm 23:1-6 and how it relates to God desiring us to not have lack in any area in our lives.

  1. Verse 1 – You need to say this verse aloud. The Lord is your shepherd, you shall not want. You shall not want!

  2. Verse 2 – We see no lack for rest or peace. You shouldn’t be tired all the time or frustrated. God’s plan is for you to operate with total rest and total peace. No lack for rest or peace.

  3. Verse 3 — (First of the verse) No lack for restoration. He restores our soul.  (Second part) He leads us in the right way and leads us into prosperity. We all have unique paths; we’re not going to take the same path. Your friends’ path may be politics while yours is technology.

  4. Verse 4 — No lack for protection or safety. The valley represents any disappointments or hardships we encounter. God will lead us through the valley, and he’s in there with us. The rod is God’s word, and the staff is his spirit.

  5. Verse 5 –  No lack for provision. Our cups run over. Healing & Health provision (oil). Relationship provision.

  6. Verse 6 –  Favor is on our life. No lack for family (the local church)

Homework/Instructions

  1. Only allow God’s Word to give definition to your life and God’s plan/purpose for your life. Don’t allow people, your emotions/feelings, or satan give definition to your life! Don’t allow your personal environment, past experiences or present experiences give definition to your life.

  2. Resist lack! Everywhere you see it, you have to resist it. “I resist that in the name of Jesus, that’s not God’s plan for my life.”

  3. You have to mediate on your no lack state. You’ll have to practice it.
